Small Diesel Engines SHORT course

The Landing School is Offering a One-Day Course on Small Diesel Engines

August 15th, 2019 from 9am to 12pm and from 1pm to 4pm. 

Join us for an informative and practical course -- tailored to the needs of the group – on understanding and maintaining small diesel engines.  We will cover the basic principles of the diesel engines typically found in sailboats and other small vessels with inboard engines. 

Part 1 is from 9am to 12pm and will cover:

  • Principles of engine operation

  • Engine architecture 

  • Engine installation configurations and driveline

  • Engine support systems, i.e. Fuel supply, exhaust components

Part 2 is from 1pm to 4pm and will cover:

  • Engine startup checklist

  • Common problems and basic (really basic) troubleshooting

  • Oil and fuel filter changes and fuel system bleeding

  • Winter decommissioning 

The demonstration engine for both sessions will be a Westerbeke 30B Three.
