Position Title: Shipwright

Job Description: The Flagship Niagara League is seeking shipwrights for a service and inspection haul out at Great Lakes Shipyard in Cleveland OH. Work is expected to begin on October 13th, 2021. The project is expected to take a minimum of 5 weeks and will include a destructive survey of the counter and transom. Deficiencies found in the counter and transom will be addressed in this shipyard period. Regular service to the underwater portion of the hull including, as necessary, the replacement of planking and caulking. Applicants should have at least two years of on the job training or a formal training in traditional wooden vessel construction and be skilled in plank fitting and caulking. The workload will be 50 hours a week or greater. Applicants must be able to lift 30-50 lbs. on a regular basis.

The U.S. Brig Niagara, home-ported in Erie, Pennsylvania, is a faithful reconstruction of Oliver Hazard Perry’s relief flagship during the Battle of Lake Erie. She is a two masted (snow) brig. Sparred Length 198’. Hull length along rail 123’. Molded Beam 32’. Draft 10’6”. Displacement 297 long tons.
