Position Title: Dock Hand

Compensation/Rate: $13-$15/hour based on experience and performance + tips

Location: Yarmouth, Maine

Job Type: Part-time/seasonal, flexible schedule, season runs through October 15th

Position Summary: Come get your hours in on the water. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who love boats and being around the water to join the Freedom Boat Club team at Yarmouth Boat Yard to help us finish off the season. Offering a flexible schedule and a fun work environment. You will assist customers with boat reservations, prepare and clean boats for outings, ensure safety on the docks and work with our Dockmaster to provide an outstanding boating experience for our customers and their guests.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet customers in a friendly, upbeat, courteous, and professional manner.

  • Assist customers with boarding / un-boarding boats, with an emphasis on safety.

  • Assist with docking and fueling boats. Move boats between our locations in South Portland, Yarmouth, Boothbay, Portland

  • Clean boats and stage equipment for next outings Inspect boats for safety, equipment checks, tie-up, and proper slip location.

  • Ensure docks are clean and presentable.

  • Ability to maintain a calm, positive attitude during periods of high activity.

  • Must love working around the water and providing impeccable customer service.

  • Always operate with an emphasis on guest hospitality.

  • Work with Dockmaster to ensure customer service standards of quality are met.

  • Daily clerical work to prepare reservation log, fuel log and weather reports.

  • Familiarize yourself with local waters in order to provide basic chart guidance to customers

Skills & Requirements

  • Seeking a candidate that has a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and is a great team player

  • Must be a self-starter and capable of working unsupervised

  • Must be organized and detail-oriented and adhere to all safety policies

  • Must have strong communication and friendly customer service skills

  • Boating experience in and around boats 18-24' in length (basic knowledge of how to operate a boat)

  • Previous marina and/or customer service experience preferred

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record with proof of insurance

  • Physical ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs, board and un-board boats dozens of times per day, as well as kneel and bend to clean boats

  • This position requires the employee to spend 90% off the day outside in all weather conditions and weekend/holiday shifts are required

  • Applicants over 21 must pass a background check
