April 2023

Well, it’s almost May, and May means… Graduation!

There is a certain excitement in the air as students really see the finish line ahead of them and I share in the excitement. The project boats are wrapping up (some are done already), the Town Class sailboats are in the finishing stages (I can’t wait to see what final colors are chosen) and the Yacht Design final projects are looking very professional (after many long, industrious hours in the studio).

March 2023

Students and faculty have arrived back on campus from a much deserved spring break and all of the shops are humming with activity. We are getting just a hint of spring and students can get a peek of the finish line…. it’s out there somewhere! Marine Systems shop doors are open more frequently as boats go back together, Yacht Design students have completed the Pilot Boat project and now can focus on their individual projects, and in Wooden Boat, the Town Class sailboat look like real boats.

February 2023

As the winter doldrums are upon us, we are all hoping longingly for spring. It's gratifying to see that students are still happily engaged in their various projects. The Wooden Boat students continue to knock down the milestones in the Town Class builds, Marine Systems project boats are well underway and the Yacht Design students now get to try their hand at an aluminum construction powerboat.

January 2023

Following a much deserved Christmas break and various off-site and on-site IPAP (Inter-Program Activity Period) initiatives, the students are diving head first into the second semester. After a couple of silent weeks, it’s nice to hear the saws humming and the hammers banging again, not to mention the sound of busy students sharing ideas and experiences.

While we all have our sights set on the major milestone of graduation in May, I think everyone is looking forward to the work and the learning ahead of us!

December 2022

Today is the last day of the fall semester and students are (justifiably) looking forward to a well deserved break, and some Christmas pudding.

As we wrap up the semester and say goodbye to 2022, I would like to congratulate all of our students for the fine work they have done both individually and together as a class. I'm sure as they look back at where they started and where they are now, they will feel a sense of pride in what they have accomplished. In a “learn by doing” environment, finishing a task is rewarding in itself.

November 2022

So, mid-term is upon us which means we are a quarter of the way through the school year! It seems only yesterday that students were arriving for registration day. By now, everyone has settled into a routine and the overall atmosphere is one of busy students happily learning in our classrooms and shops, and occasionally heading off for enlightening field trips. It’s always gratifying to see what was once a group of disparate individuals meld into a cohesive community within and across our Landing School programs. This is a special place.

September 2022

Another year begins… There is always an air of excitement in the school as students arrive for a new academic year. This year was no exception as we welcomed students from around the country and, indeed, around the world for registration day. We began registration day by making sure all the required paperwork was filed, followed by the more fun opportunities of bridge building, model sailboat building, and racing competitions. Once students had settled in to their respective work benches and drawing boards, we ended the day with a cook-out lunch in the Big Boat Shop!

June 2022

We just completed our 43rd graduation and are already busy planning for next year. To support those efforts, earlier this year we reached out to our key benefactors and friends in the Marine Trades to see if we they would support a Matching Fund Challenge. I am excited to announce that through the generosity of a benefactor, who asks to remain anonymous, and a group of companies in the Marine Trade Industry we have the opportunity to receive a matching gift of $65,000 if we can raise a matching amount of donations by the July 15th deadline.

April 2022

Well, Spring is upon us at The Landing School although some days the weather would indicate otherwise. Still, there are signs of Spring all around, including at the school!

Activity is high among both the students and faculty as the school year comes to a close with all eyes focused on graduation on May 21st!

February 2022

Happy 2022 to all of our Alumni and Friends!
