Position Summary: The Marine Craftsman must work in a safe, methodical, and consistent manner under the direction and guidance of the Director of Esthetics and Welding, performing, or learning to perform the tasks outlined by the Director. Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and fabrication on passenger vessels and on company owned dockside facility’s, docks, piers, and buildings.

Job Description:

  • Plumbing repairs to pipes, valves, tanks, piping, appliances, and pumping systems.

  • Interior and exterior preparation and painting including descaling and painting vessel decks, hulls exterior and interior, topside superstructures, interior walls ceilings and floors and bilges.

  • Welding preparation, fabrication, and repair of various structures, with various metals and welding techniques

  • Carpentry and craftsmanship of interior joinery, walls, ceilings, decks, and all other building materials found on passenger vessels.

  • Documentation and monitoring of maintenance and repair work through the company web based and structured maintenance and repair program as requested and assisted by the Director.

  • Participate in computer and mobile phone-based monitoring and input of maintenance tasks, work hours, and company training and documentation programs.

  • This position is a 40 hour per week position but may include limited occasional overtime with weekend or evening shifts possible.

  • Other marine maintenance and repair work either dock side or onboard vessels as assigned

  • Additional job duties assigned.


Technical and Physical Requirements: The Marine Craftsman must have training and experience in a field that lends itself to the job of construction, maintenance, and repair of motor vessels. Some of the skills found in commercial building maintenance or residential home building and maintenance may cross over and fit the marine programs. The ideal candidate will have aptitude or experience in one or more of the following trade skills, preferably in the marine industry, and a willingness to learn and participate in the others as needed in the workday.

Qualifications:

  • Professional painting and paint surface preparation.

  • Painting of steel, aluminum, wood, and veneers.

  • Skilled carpentry training and experience.

  • Working in wood, fire resistant veneers, flooring, and ceiling materials.

  • Must have good attention to detail and quality workmanship.

  • Welding and metal fabrication training and experience.

  • Welding training should include MIG, TIG, electric ARC and wire feed welders, and fabrication experience preferably in ferrous and non-ferrous metals making repair to existing structures as well as fabrication of new structures.

  • Plumbing and pipe fitting training and experience.

  • This work includes refurbishment or redesign of bathrooms, vessel water pumping, steel piping, exhaust piping and fluid drainage systems,

  • Be able and willing to wear personal safety clothing and equipment such as hard hats, gloves, face masks, life vests, safety harness etc.as necessary for safe work practice and company policy guidelines.

  • Be physically fit enough to lift weights of 50lbs. or more safely and at times on moving vessels.

  • Be prepared to work in outdoor New England weather conditions in all seasons for several hours at a time.

  • This is a hands on, non-administrative position, best suited for a person that gains satisfaction from working with their hands, putting their current skills to good use, while still learning new skills as opportunities arise.
