Location: Boat Technician Great Lakes Sailing Co. (GLSC), located on West Bay in Traverse City, is growing and looking for a seasonal or year-round boat technician. Resume with letter of introduction is required for a response.

Company & Position outline: Company Background: GLSC operates one of the largest yacht charter fleets on the Great Lakes, an accredited ASA Sailing School and offers new boat sales. The charter fleet has sail and power boats ranging in size from 30’ – 50’. Charters normally consist of couples, families or small groups for multi-day excursions that travel to different port towns (not a typical day sail boat with a lot of passengers) and the clientele comes from all over the US and sometimes Europe. The Sailing School is one of the top-ranked schools worldwide with the American Sailing Association and offers instruction to adults and families on boats starting at 30’ in length. GLSC is also a regional dealer for Gemini Catamarans and Jeanneau sailing yachts and was the Jeanneau Dealer of the Year in 2020. We have about 25 employees and contractors consisting of USCG licensed Captains, boat cleaners and seasonal help. Some of the admin and service staff is employed year-round. Our office and marina is located on West Bay in Traverse City. www.GreatLakesSailingCo.com This position requires the ability to troubleshoot and repair the systems on a modern boat which includes: 12 volt and 110 volt electrical, electronics, diesel engine, fresh water, heads, pumps, etc. We do not require expertise or certification in any particular field. A general knowledge and experience is more applicable.

Job Description: Job tasks include:

  • Commission boat systems in the Spring

  • Decommission charter boats in the Fall

  • Commission new boats sold all season

  • Assist with projects on boats

  • Perform routine systems checks between charters

  • Perform charter briefings when needed (we’ll train on this)

  • Sailing experience is beneficial but not required as sailboats share common mechanical and electrical systems with powerboats.
