Position Summary:
Head Instructor for Junior Sailing Program
Arundel Yacht Club, Kennebunkport, ME
Mid-June through the end of August
The Head Instructor will teach children (aged 7-16) proper use of an Opti or 420 club boats during a 3 or 4 hour sailing class. The Head Instructor will lead a fun class (with supporting instructors) to teach the basics of sailing, progressing through race tactics, with a strong emphasis on water safety. Most classes have 8-10 students. There are 4 levels of instruction: Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
Requirements:
- Current US Sailing Level 1 or equivalent
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Proper handling of power boats and sailboats
- Ability to maintain a safe and fun environment
- Provide positive coaching to improve sailing technique for all students.
- Strong communication skills
- Effective leadership skills
