Position Title: Marine Designer

Compensation/Rate: $20+ per hour minimum starting (experience considered), paid holidays and vacation days, 401(k) with company match, company paid health insurance, ABYC and other technical certifications paid for, housing assistance

Location: Wanchese, North Carolina

Position Summary: MARINE DESIGNER is a position in the DIGITAL DESIGN & FABRICATION department at Bayliss Boatworks. The Marine Designer will report to the Design Manager who oversees naval architecture, preliminary and production design, and digital based fabrication.

The primary responsibilities of the marine designer are as follows:

1) Create accurate & precise 3D design models of surfaces, structures, interior compartments, furniture assemblies, & mechanical component/systems for new construction sport fishing vessels

2) Translate 3D design models into 2D production drawings that can be interpreted, understood, and used by the various production departments (exterior carpentry, interior carpentry, mechanical, electrical, paint, boatyard) throughout the company

3) Document existing vessels, and accurately replicate exterior spaces (e.g. cockpit & mezzanine), interior compartments (e.g. salon, galley, staterooms), and mechanical components/assemblies/systems in a 3D digital environment

The Marine Designer will collaborate with vessel owners, captains, Bayliss Boatworks management, and Bayliss Boatworks staff in all departments to develop buildable design solutions that simultaneously meet owner requirements and company standards for quality design, fabrication, and finish.

Candidates must possess the following skills:

~Proficiency with 3D surface modeling software, specifically Rhinoceros 3D
~Aptitude for effective communication (including verbal, written, & graphical)
~Cursory grasp on marine structures & construction techniques (specifically, as related to wooden & composite marine vessels)
~Competency with Microsoft Word & Excel
~Ability to keep several projects on track simultaneously
