Compensation/Rate: $18-$28/Hour

Position Summary:

THE COMPANY
Boyne Boat Yard is a full-service marine yard. Boyne Boat Yard has capabilities in all things cosmetic, mechanical and marine systems related. Our team is available year-round to manage the service needs of our clients. For client convenience, we offer a 35-ton travel lift at the water’s edge and pride ourselves on year-round oversight of the safety of on-site watercraft in storage. We offer over 60,000 square feet of indoor, heated and cold storage, as well as outdoor, waterfront storage options. Boyne Boat Yard is a sister company to Van Dam Custom Boats and a trusted partner in their custom boat building business. THE POSITION
Boyne Boat Yard, a premier, full-service marine yard, is seeking a Marine Mechanical Technician to join our talented, energetic, and motivated team. We are open to all skill levels for this position but are looking for someone with an aptitude for mechanical work. As a member of our team, you will be expected to be eager and ready to learn about marine service and storage. We aim to provide the highest quality services to our customers; we don’t cut corners, and we always have a focus on customer service. In this role, you will be expected to participate—in our daily and weekly huddles, in problem solving, in helping fellow teammates, and in communicating with customers, when needed. You need to be flexible and adaptable; our day can change rapidly, and your work may consist of launching a boat, changing oil, or visiting a customer’s dock to help diagnose an issue. You do not need to come with years of experience, but you do need to come with the motivation to learn, be part of a team, and jump in wherever you’re needed. You will be expected to bring good energy, enthusiasm and tenacity every day. Active participation in everything from developing solutions for day-to-day challenges to the financials of the business and our monthly meetings is important and expected. Compensation is commensurate with experience; range is $18-$28 per hour.
Duties and Responsibilities
Consistently perform high quality work in areas including, but not limited to:
• Mechanical tasks:
o Oil changes
o Drive services
o Tune ups
o Diagnostics and trouble shooting
• Repairing and replacing parts
• Examine boats to determine the extent of damage or malfunctions
• Review work orders and discuss work with service writer
• Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear, using a computer
• Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturer’s performance specifications
• Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined
• Attend trainings when needed
• Assist with launching, hauling, and standing boats of various sizes
• Assist with loading and moving boats on trailers
• Maintain personal inventory of tools and organize tools to be prepared at the job site
• Operate work boats, customer boats, both sail and power, and yard equipment to assist in moving boats
• Maintain a clean and organized work area with safety-minded practices
• Be your own quality control and bring issues to the Service Manager when you see them
Requirements and Qualifications
• ABYC Systems Certification desired
• Ability to climb ladders and stairs, to lift up to 50 pounds consistently, and to get on/off in and around boats of varying sizes
• Ability to work outdoors in all conditions
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact positively with people
• Driver’s license and clean driving record
• CDL, or willingness to obtain a CDL desired

• Willingness to work regular overtime (at 1.5x hourly wage)
