Position Title: Sailing Director

Compensation/Rate: $30/hour

Location: Kennebunkport, ME

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Sailing Director for the Kennebunk River Club located in Kennebunkport, Maine.

• The Sailing Director is responsible for overseeing the planning and delivery of all sailing camp activities at the Kennebunk River Club. Sailing camp typically takes place in the afternoon in Opti’s for kids aged 7-12 with a range in skill levels. There are also 420s, a Laser and Rhodes 19 available for instruction.

• The Sailing Director is to supervise and coach 2-3 sailing instructors, who typically have prior experience.

• The Sailing Director will:

• Provide safety and skill instruction that is age appropriate and progressive

• Maintain knowledge about the facility and its emergency action plan; ensure proper safety procedures are followed during all sailing activities, and activate the emergency action plan when necessary, and alert Management of emergencies and safety risks as needed

• Set up and clean up the waterfront prior to and after daily usage, and monitor equipment being used.

• Develop and administer of lesson plans for sailing that are age appropriate, hands on and educational

• Ensure campers are challenged and expand upon any prior skill.

• Lead other forms of boating such as canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding

• Act as a leader and role model to other staff members through enthusiastic participation in all camp programming

• There is also an opportunity to provide lessons to Kennebunk River Club adult members


Requirements:

• CPR, First Aid and AED Training

• Knowledge of sailing techniques

• Ability to rig and make minor repairs to sailboats

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations

• Excellent customer service

• Ability to always maintain a professional appearance and demeanor

• Ability to meet US employment eligibility requirements.

• Ability to safely operate a powerboat

• Certified as a Level 1 Instructor from US Sailing (or is willing to obtain certification)


Founded in 1889, the Kennebunk River Club is a private, seasonal club located in Kennebunkport, Maine along the scenic Kennebunk River. Open from mid-May to mid-October, the Club offers tennis, boating, and social activities.

The Junior Program offers several activities and camps. The Boating and Tennis Camp (ages 7 and up) runs for seven weeks each summer. Led by the staff professionals as well as camp counselors, the Camp offer a fun, active environment in which to learn and play.
