Compensation/Rate: $35-40/hr dependent on experience

Location: Kennebunk, ME

Position Summary:

Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association (www.kbia.net) is a 110+ year old summer enrichment program for children located on Mother’s Beach in Kennebunk, Maine.

We are seeking a part-time Woodworking Teacher (11-12.5 hours/week) to join our vibrant team for the summer of 2022. Our program runs eight weeks, Monday to Friday, starting June 27th and ends on August 19th. It is expected that teachers set up their room prior to the start of the program and are available for orientation the weekend of June 25th and 26th. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching children of a variety of ages and experience as a boat builder or wood craftsperson. Current teaching certification is a plus.

The class schedule is Tuesday and Thursday from 9 AM to 1:30 PM (Boat Building from 9 AM – 11 AM and Model Boat Making from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM), and Wednesdays from 9-10:30am and 10:30-12pm (weeks 1-8) with a third section from 12:30-2pm on weeks 3-6 (July 11-August5). Boat Building is designed for kids, ages 9+, to build a skiff over the course of the summer – with the understanding that it may not be fully completed by the end of the season. Model Boat Building is designed as a class where kids will build their own model boat within the weekly class. The Wednesday classes are for ages 7-10 and focus on small woodworking tasks (birdhouses, back scratchers, etc) that can be completed in a single 1.5 hour session. Class sizes are small and we strive to incorporate our beautiful surroundings into the content of classes as often as possible.

KBIA is a relaxed work environment where decisions are made with the needs of children as the driving factor. Partial tuition remission is available for children of teachers.

Please send cover letter, resume, list of references, and compensation expectations to employment@kbia.net. Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible as the position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is identified.

KBIA will require all staff, by the start of summer employment, to have received all COVID-19 vaccine doses, including boosters (if eligible) in accordance with the most updated recommendations from the CDC. Requests for medical exemption/reasonable accommodation to this requirement must be submitted to the Executive Director two (2) weeks prior to the staff’s expected start date and will be reviewed on a case by case basis in accordance with applicable law.
