Position Title: Teak Deck Installation Technician (Subcontractor)

Compensation/Rate: $25-$45 DOE

Location: Multiple locations on the West Coast, Seattle, WA

Position Summary:

As a Teak Deck Installation Technician, you’ll be assembling and installing teak decks on high-end yachts using a proven installation system that maximizes efficiency and allows us to move from one job to the next with ease. Training will be provided in accordance with Teak Deck Systems of Sarasota, FL, the world leader in marine vessel teak deck manufacture and installation.

Project Overview:
This is a project-based temp position with the potential of going full time. Each job entails assembling and installing prefabricated teak decks. The duration of each job is typically three to five weeks. TDS fabricates the decks and components to fit each ship’s exact specifications. The unassembled materials are then shipped to us on-site.
Upon delivery, we:
● Unpack all materials
● Configure/put them in their proper orientation
● Bond them to the vessel
● Trim, sand, and caulk throughout the boat

Our team has over 60 years combined experience working in the marine industry. Specializing in teak deck installation as well as interior refits and woodworking. We are a small team of highly skilled artisans performing at the top of the industry. Everyone in the organization installs teak decks – each of us is equally valued. Deck installation has become our primary focus over the past five years.
You’ll be working in a fast-paced, highly productive environment with motivated and goal-oriented coworkers. We take pride in our craftsmanship and our people.
Core Duties, Responsibilities, Expectations
As a subcontractor, you will be required to have a business license and must carry valid hull insurance (hull insurance will be discussed during your interview). After your training is complete, you will be turned loose on your own to address various tasks around the boat.

If you don’t have these skills already, you’ll learn:
● Teak deck install system
● Vacuum laminating (using a sheet of plastic to use atmospheric pressure as a clamp
● Knowledge of epoxies and mixing ratios
● Hand and power tools – sanders, band saws, etc.
● Fitting trims and margin boards
● Freehand seam routing
● Deck layout and positioning

Requirements and Important Information:
● Must have basic knowledge of woodworking, shop tools, and power tools
● Power tool experience preferred, not required
● Travel is required for this job – accommodations are typically covered
● Basic woodworking, carpentry, and experience with power tools are a plus, but we will train you if we think you’re a good fit
● Job will require some heavy lifting
● Attention to detail and willingness to learn

We will train as you go to get your proficiency to a professional level as required by the job – which means you’ll gain transferrable, hard skills. This position is extremely hands-on. You must be comfortable working independently once trained.

Schedule, Hours, & Travel:
You’ll be working approximately 55 hours per week: 10-hour days Monday through Friday, starting at 6am and ending around 4pm, with a half-day on Saturdays. You will have Sundays off. The boats you’ll be working on are located up and down the West Coast from Canada to San Diego.

Compensation:
Starting pay ranges from $25-$45/hour, commensurate with experience and skill level. Opportunities for rapid increases in pay once you are proficient and working without supervision.
