Position Title: Master Shipwright- Maryland Dove

Compensation/Rate: $25-$31 per hour

Job Description: CBMM’s Shipyard is a working exhibit of Chesapeake Bay wooden boat building and restoration, open to the public seven days a week, and staffed by CBMM employees and volunteers. The Shipyard restores, builds and maintains traditional wooden vessels, while allowing full public access to the process.

CBMM is currently hiring Master Shipwrights to help complete the replica construction of the 17th century pinnace the Maryland Dove. The ship design is based on the original Dove that sailed to the Maryland colony with the Ark in 1634.

Minimum Requirements:

• At least 10 years’ experience in traditional wooden boat construction and/or restoration.

• Possess the knowledge and ability to identify and fabricate quality large timber products using treenails.

• Crane and forklift experience, basic rigging and metal fabrication experience is a plus.

• Experience running a crew.

• Good communication skills along with the aptitude to teach your skills to volunteers, apprentices, and the general public. Must be comfortable building in full public view, interfacing and interpreting to patrons daily.

• Ability to provide all necessary hand tools and demonstrate proficiency in use of wood shop machinery.

Alternate, 4-day work schedule, to include weekends & some evenings. Position is a contract (June 2019-August 2021), full-time, non-exempt with exceptional benefits and excellent work/life balance. Expected salary range from $25-$31 per hour, based on experience. Relocation assistance available.
