Position Title: Waterfront Director - Sailing Program

Compensation/Rate: $16,000-$17,500 based on experience

Location: Kennebunk, ME

Position Summary: WATERFRONT DIRECTOR WANTED FOR 2022 SEASON

Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association (www.kbia.net) is a 110+ year old summer enrichment program for children located on Mother’s Beach in Kennebunk, Maine. We are seeking a Waterfront Director who has experience teaching sailing to join our vibrant team for the summer of 2022. Our program runs eight weeks, starting June 27th and ends on August 19th.

The ideal candidate will be available to work 1-2 weeks prior to the start of classes getting the boats into the water and 1-2 weeks after the close of classes getting the boats stored for the winter. Our signature learn-to-sail classes are taught in the cove while more advanced waterfront classes are taught on the ocean. KBIA’s fleet is comprised of Optis, 420s, Lasers, and two Precision sailboats. The position calls for a versatile team player. In addition to sailing, our waterfront classes at KBIA include: motor boating, kayaking, rowing, fishing, stand up paddle boarding, and marine biology water excursions.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring a safe, positive and fun filled environment

  • Class instruction and supervision of sailing classes

  • Scheduling and supervising staff to meet the needs of the program

  • Scheduling and managing weekly off-site races, regattas and weekend sailing activities

  • Oversight of waterfront emergency protocols, safety and behavior standards

  • Overseeing of waterfront vessel security and maintenance

  • Communication with parents of sailors

  • On-site presence for all waterfront programming plus at least one week pre- and post-season and winter program planning work, as needed.

    The Waterfront Director reports to the Executive Director and is supported by Counselors and Counselors in Training (CIT). The position requires a friendly, high-energy individual who enjoys working with kids and can provide exemplary leadership.

    Ideal Qualifications:
    • Level I US Sailing Certification preferred; Level III required
    • Competitive/Race sailing background
    • Experience with keelboat and adventure sailing
    • Coast Guard Captains or Launch license; if completed in advance of first season at KBIA, tuition reimbursement offered following one full season’s employment
    • Experience successfully leading and managing a kids-oriented waterfront program
    • Experience with basic boat maintenance

    Salary: $17,500 to be paid equally in weekly installments over the summer weeks (1 week prior to programming, 8 weeks of programming, and 1 week post-programming) June 18, 2022 - August 28, 2022
