Compensation/Rate: $20-$35/hr based on experience

Position Summary: RACE COACH WANTED FOR 2022 SEASON

Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association (www.kbia.net) is a 110+ year old summer enrichment program for children located on Mother’s Beach in Kennebunk, Maine. We are seeking a Waterfront Director who has experience teaching sailing, to join our vibrant team for the summer of 2022. Our program runs eight weeks, starting June 27th and ends on August 19th.

Our signature learn-to-sail classes are taught in the cove while more advanced waterfront classes are taught on the ocean. KBIA’s fleet is comprised of Optis, 420s, Lasers, and two Precision sailboats. The position calls for a versatile team player.

Other waterfront classes at KBIA include: motor boating, kayaking, rowing, fishing and marine biology excursions.

The position calls for a versatile team player who can teach at all levels, but especially with our racing classes. We offer flexibility, a competitive salary, the chance to live in a classic New England beach community that is within 90 minutes of Boston and 35 minutes to Portland.

The ideal candidate:

• is an experienced sailing instructor
• is a former or present competitive sailor
• has or is willing to obtain a Level I US Sailing Certification; US Sailing Keelboat preferred
• Coast Guard Captains or Launch license; if completed in advance of first season at KBIA, tuition reimbursement offered following one full season’s employment
• Is available both 1-2 weeks prior to the start of summer programming to aid with site set-up and 1-2 weeks following programming completion to aid in winterization of all boats (ideal availability is June 18, 2022 – August 28, 2022)

The Racing Coach reports to the Waterfront Director and is supported by Counselors and Counselors in Training (CIT). The Racing Coach is responsible for the instruction, supervision and management of some combination of KBIA’s Race Team 1, Race Team 2 and the Opti Race Team and will be a significant leader in our sailing program. Both Race Team 1 and Opti Race Team classes send representatives to local weekly MIRC races and the coach will accompany them. Race Team 2 travels to larger, often multi day, regattas.
