The annual Blessing of the Fleet is a longstanding maritime tradition that celebrates the completion of student projects and blesses the vessels for safe voyages ahead. A light lunch is provided for students and their families. Guests are welcome to explore the beautiful setting and enjoy kayaks, paddle boards, beach access, and walking trails.
Join us as the entire Landing School community celebrates the achievements of our graduating students as they prepare to enter the marine industry. The Academic Showcase offers a chance to tour the shops, view finished student projects and design portfolios, and connect with students and faculty. The Commencement Ceremony celebrates our graduates with remarks from our commencement speaker, Margherita M. Desy. Please note: Due to limited capacity and parking, Commencement is reserved for students and their invited guests.
Building boats calls for many odd or specialized tools, many of which are no longer commercially available. If there is a modern tool available, often it is low quality or not quite the right tool for the job. Join Jake Greiner and learn how to build your own! Over the course of three days, you will make a small brass bevel gauge perfect for picking up the angles between planks on a carvel-planked boat, a sturdy pencil compass perfect for spiling those planks, and a wooden mallet good for chiseling, caulking seams, or general persuasion of stubborn parts. The course will cover some basic metalworking skills and some basic woodworking skills, and you will bring home a set of three tools ready to use on your next project! Cost: $500
Step into the woodshop and learn the fundamentals of working safely and effectively with woodworking machinery. In this introductory course, students will become familiar with essential shop equipment such as table saws, bandsaws, jointers, and planers. Participants will create simple woodworking projects designed to build confidence and foundational skills. This course is perfect for beginners looking to develop their woodworking abilities in a professional shop environment. Cost: $500

Class menu to include bread with seaweed compound butter, white bean dip with seaweed, cucumber and seaweed salad, and a kale, bean, and seaweed Tuscan-style soup.
There are thousands of edible seaweeds. We will introduce those most widely available in North America and how they can be prepared and utilized in your daily routine and cooking.
Topics will include:
Edible seaweed types, names, and uses, including how to read product labels.
How to utilize seaweeds while avoiding heavy metals and excess iodine through product selection and preparation.
How much seaweed is needed to achieve optimal nutritional benefits.
Simple and easy ways to cook with seaweed including food preparation and cooking demonstrations.

We are honored to welcome this year’s graduation speaker: Bruce Schwab, founder and CEO of Ocean Planet. A decorated sailor, Bruce has won numerous solo and crewed sailing competitions, including the 1996 Singlehanded Transpac aboard Rumbleseat. He led the design and construction of the all-American Open 60 OceanPlanet and has competed in global sailing challenges like the 2002/2003 Around Alone Race and the 2004/2005 Vendée Globe.
