Job description
As a Service Technician at Chase Leavitt, you will work in a specialized field focused on the maintenance and repair of critical marine safety gear. This is a skilled labor role where attention to detail is paramount, as the equipment you service is the last line of defense in emergencies at sea. To start, you will assist our 2 full time Service Technicians, and could turn into a full time position. Raft inspections and servicing requires certifications after a period of training, and Chase Leavitt pays for certifications.

Primary Job Functions

  • Life Raft Inspections: Systematic inspection, testing, and repacking of inflatable life rafts. This includes:

  • Inflation Testing: Dismounting CO2 cylinders, inflating rafts, and measuring tube pressure to check for leaks or deteriorating fabric.

  • Safety Outfitting: Replacing expired flares and other safety equipment as needed.

  • Technical Documentation: Read and interpret manufacturer service manuals and Coast Guard-approved plans to ensure every repair meets stringent safety standards.

  • Adaptive Problem-Solving: Approach complex mechanical challenges with an open and analytical mindset, seeking innovative solutions while adhering to strict manufacturer specifications.

  • Continuous Learning: Actively participate in ongoing training programs to stay current with the latest marine safety technologies.

Physical & Technical Requirements

  • Lifting & Stamina: Life rafts are heavy and awkward; you must be able to safely lift 70 lbs. The role involves frequent walking, bending, stooping, and working in confined spaces.

  • Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills are required for recording and accessing service data.

  • Specialized Skills: While training is provided, experience with gas cylinders is a significant advantage, as you will regularly handle CO2 inflation systems.

Qualifications

  • Education: A High School Diploma or GED is required.

  • Driver's License: You must hold a valid driver's license for potentially transporting equipment or traveling between service sites.

  • Professional Mindset: The ability to work both independently and as part of a team is essential for meeting deadlines in a high-stakes environment.
