Position Title: Boat Building Carpenter
Compensation/Rate: $35/hr
Job description: As a Boat Building Carpenter, you will be responsible for the construction and installation of all wood and composite elements onboard, including structural components, cabinetry, bulkheads, decking, and trim work. This role requires fundamental carpentry skills, familiarity with marine construction methods, and a high standard for detail and finish quality. Experience with fiberglass, resins, and gelcoat is a plus, but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and install wooden components such as cabinetry, bulkheads, furniture, doors, hatches, and decking.
- Read and interpret boat design plans, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Work with various materials including marine plywood, hardwoods, laminates, and composites.
- Cut, shape, fit, and finish wood and composite parts to precise tolerances.
- Collaborate with design, fiberglass, mechanical, and electrical teams throughout the build process.
- Use a variety of power and hand tools safely and accurately.
- Prepare surfaces and participate in finishing tasks such as sanding, sealing, and varnishing.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Ensure all work meets the company’s standards for quality, fit, and finish.
- Preferred (but not required) Experience:
- Familiarity with fiberglass layups, resin systems, and gelcoat repair.
- Experience with vacuum bagging and composite construction techniques.
- Knowledge of marine-specific construction techniques and materials.
Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of wood joinery, layout, and finishing techniques.
- Ability to work from detailed plans and follow tight tolerances.
- High attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced boatyard or shop environment.
