The chosen candidate will learn proper procedures to fair and prep surfaces for priming and final topcoat application including sanding, cleaning, and masking, and working up towards topcoat application. The applicant must have good communication skills and be a team player. Applicants must have a good eye for surface preparation detail have a strong desire to learn and work. A Marine Finisher must also possess basic mathematic skills, must be able to read and understand paint mixing formulas, have the flexibility to work in standing, squatting or kneeling position, at times work in small spaces, as well as reaching overhead with some twisting and bending, while performing the tasks described above. Finisher must not have a fear of heights and must be able to lift a minimum of 25lbs.

• Strictly adheres to safety and environmental regulations and meets quality and delivery commitments when performing environmentally sensitive activities such as spillage clean up, transporting fuel, and removing black water, waste oil, or garbage from vessels.
• Ensures proper care and safety to customers and property while securing and releasing dock lines and otherwise assisting customer's arrival/departure from the fuel dock.
• Fills fuel tank of all vessels with gasoline or diesel fuel to level specified by customer.
• Maintains tank fuel log; ensures adequate fuel supplies are on-hand at all times; notifies Dock Master of fuel capacity and order status.
• Performs general clean-up/maintenance of fuel dock including proper storage of fuel hoses, clearing fuel dock of debris and unnecessary items and equipment, emptying trash on a regular basis in accordance to environmental and safety regulations, keeping area clean and clear and ensuring a presentable and customer-friendly atmosphere.
• Responsible for re-stocking and maintenance of marina products available for sale on fuel dock such as bagged ice, sunscreen, etc.; charges customer appropriately and collects payment via marina provided system.

Work Environment

Objective:

The Composite Boatbuilding curriculum is designed to provide students with a structured learning environment in which they can become knowledgeable and proficient in the practical application of the fundamental principles of construction and manufacturing techniques in the composites industry, primarily focused on the Marine Trades Industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In fulfillment of the objectives, the Composite Boatbuilding Instructor will:

  • Work directly with students, with primary responsibility for lectures, demonstrations and practical shop-based composites fabrication work.

  • Assist students in learning individually, in small groups and as a class through clear communication; patient, understanding, approach; thorough and professional knowledge; mature leadership; and positive, honest academic advice

  • Evaluate student learning through questioning, homework, and practical and theoretical testing.

  • Continue to develop and improve the curriculum and all teaching materials

  • Share in the administrative tasks of the development and successful operation of the program, as assigned by the Dean of Education

  • Continue to develop skills and knowledge pertinent to teaching and current marine industry practices

  • Oversee and manage the activities of the Composite Boatbuilding Program Assistant, or similar

  • Work cooperatively and professionally with the Dean of Education, staff, and students of the School at all times

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or higher

  • Minimum of four years working in industry, building and repairing products using modern composite materials such as: fiberglass, Kevlar, carbon fiber, and polyester, vinylester and epoxy resin systems.

  • Proven in-depth practical experience with various open and closed-molding techniques including wet-layup, infused, and pre-preg.

  • In-depth experience in specifically yacht construction and repair a strong plus

  • Experience in CNC programming and cutting a strong plus.

  • Practical experience in design and specification development a plus

  • Previous teaching experience a strong plus

Duties:
• Design, develop and release CAD for hull bottom designs. This includes full weight study and hydrostatics.
• Define requirements and component specifications for multiple mechanical systems, including, but not limited to, propellers, rudders, tracking fins, propeller shafts and shaft struts.
• Conceive new mechanical and mechanical system designs for customer convenience and efficient manufacturability, including supporting documentation and analysis such as DFMEA, DVP&R and manufacturing feasibility.
• Generate engineering drawings for new designs and approve prints for boat release

Education & Work Experience
• BS or Advanced Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in hull product design with knowledge of fiberglass production processes
• ABYC certification preferred
• Must be able to operate a powerboat
• Experience with naval architecture software tools such as: RHINO, AutoCAD, and AutoDesk Inventor preferred
