The Landing School is excited to partner with WoodenBoat School to offer two introductory woodworking courses on our campus in Arundel, Maine. Known for its decades-long leadership in hands-on boatbuilding education, WoodenBoat School brings its renowned courses to our professional shops, where they’ll be taught by Landing School instructors. 

Whether you’re curious about working with wood, exploring boatbuilding as a career, or simply looking for a unique hands-on experience, these courses provide a welcoming introduction to the craft.

Tools for Boatbuilding

This hands-on course introduces the essential hand tools used in traditional boatbuilding. Participants will learn how to properly select, sharpen, and use tools such as planes, chisels, and layout tools while completing practical woodworking exercises. Along the way, students will gain an understanding of the craftsmanship and precision that go into building wooden boats.

Introduction to the Woodshop

Step into the woodshop and learn the fundamentals of working safely and effectively with woodworking machinery. In this introductory course, students will become familiar with essential shop equipment such as table saws, bandsaws, jointers, and planers. Participants will create simple woodworking projects designed to build confidence and foundational skills. This course is perfect for beginners looking to develop their woodworking abilities in a professional shop environment.
