Position Title: Boat Maintenance Lead
Compensation/Rate: $30-40/hr.
Location: West Tisbury, MA
Position Summary:
We are a small, family owned boatyard, specializing in full service maintenance for small, racing sailboats.
We do our best in all aspects of the business to be as environmentally friendly as possible - anything from recycling our wash water, to using eco friendly bottom paint, to using biodegradable cleaning products.
Our employees get the benefit of getting to learn every part of the process for caring for these types of boats, and we provide lots of hands on training to ensure everyone on our team produces excellent work. Unlike most boatyards, we provide our employees with all the tools and equipment they need to do their job.
The ideal candidate for this job would have a wide variety of boating and boat care knowledge.
In the spring and fall work includes:
Fiberglass & gelcoat repair
Varnishing
Bottom painting
Rigging sailboats
Detail cleaning
Driving with a trailer
Ramp launching and hauling
Driving sailboats
Driving powerboats
Covering boats for outside storage
In July and August, when the boats are in the water, work can consist of any mix of the following to suit the employees skill set:
Bottom cleaning
Driving powerboats for sailboat racing operations
Teaching sailing lessons
Teaching efoil lessons
Repairing boats as problems arise
Our peak season is May to October. In the off season there are months of varnish work to be done in our heated shop.
Historically our team has been made up of surfing and wind sport enthusiasts, and while not guaranteed, we try to modify our work schedule to chase good conditions while still fitting in a 40hr work week.
