Full-time Seasonal 35 hrs. per week

Reports To: Boat Shop Manager
Compensation: Housing near the Antique Boat Museum, additional stipend to be determined

Job Description: 
The Mechanical Intern performs skilled and timely work in the maintenance and repair of marine engines, marine machinery, and other related equipment. All maintenance and repairs are done with regard to ABM’s historic Inwater Fleet and Static Displays. 

Responsibilities: 
Ability to diagnose and repair gasoline and marine engines, outboard motors, and related marine equipment and systems. 
Assists in maintaining a preventive maintenance program for marine engines. 
Tests marine engines and equipment to determine need for repairs or adjustments. 
Operates hand and power tools associated with marine engine and equipment repair. 
Assist with launching and operation of museum vessels. 
Communicates and works with Boat Shop Manager as to the need and progress of maintenance and repairs. 

Skills Desired: 
Possesses the skills needed to install, troubleshoot, maintain and repair systems with regard to gas and/or diesel inboards and outboards. 
Ability to work with museum volunteers. 
Good communication skills, both orally and written. 
Basic computer skills. 
Ability to deal with the public in a positive and enthusiastic manner. 
All staff is expected to be available to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends. 

Education
Preferred applicants will have completed degree program from an accredited Boatbuilding School or other Marine Systems schooling
