Job description:   We are seeking reliable, friendly Launch Drivers to safely transport members and guests to and from moored vessels. This is a customer-facing, safety-critical position ideal for someone who enjoys working on the water. Flexibility is an option on start and end times and pre season/post season work is also available for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

Operate club launch safely and efficiently under varying conditions.
Assist passengers during boarding and disembarking.
Provide general waterfront assistance and excellent customer service.
Maintain cleanliness and routine checks of the launch and safety equipment.
Monitor radio communications and respond accordingly.
Enforce club and harbor safety regulations.
Assist with basic dock operations when not driving (line handling, fueling, etc.).


Current USCG Launch Tender License/equivalent or ability to obtain before start date.
Experience operating small powerboats in a harbor environment.
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions on the water.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and work in outdoor conditions.
CPR/First Aid certification

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with engineers, naval architects, and production leads to translate design concepts into accurate shop-ready documentation.
Support 3D tooling and fixture development on flat tables for production.
Ensure all drawings meet company and industry quality, safety, and accuracy standards.
Work closely with the Quality Management System (QMS) team, assisting in documentation organization and continuous improvement efforts.
Revise and update designs based on feedback from engineering and shop floor teams.
Configure CAD files to “built drawings” for bill of materials.
Prepare bills of materials and assist with process documentation and standardization.
Support the ongoing development of company drafting standards and best practices.

Training and Onboarding:

Spend approximately three months on the production floor learning company processes, construction methods, and quality standards before transitioning into the primary drafting/support role.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Industrial Design, or a related field.
Proven proficiency in Rhino and familiarity with AutoCAD or other 3D CAD tools.

What You’ll Do

Conceptual Design

• Contribute to the conceptual design of a boats composite large parts, small parts and structural components for production boats

• Develop and refine layouts and structural concepts that consider performance, strength, weight, and manufacturability

Engineering Development

• Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D / 3D layout drawings using CAD software (Rhino 3D)

• Maintain accurate and production-ready engineering documentation

• Create and document revisions of core & fiberglass kits, including CNC programming using CAM software (Rhino Cam) and updating build schematics

• Creation of 3D printed parts to be used in production as jigs, fixtures or finished parts

• Mold design – work closely with our in-house tooling department & outside composite tooling companies

Structural Analysis & Optimization

• Evaluate structural performance under operational loading conditions

• Identify and implement design improvements to enhance durability, stiffness, and overall boat performance

Materials & Construction

• Select appropriate composite materials, cores, and laminates based on performance, durability, and cost considerations

• Design with a strong understanding of composite boat-building methods and production constraints

Prototyping & Production Support

• Support prototype builds, first articles, and ongoing production

• Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to resolve design and build challenges

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work with manufacturing, procurement, quality, and leadership to ensure smooth integration of design into production

Scope:
The Shipyard is a working exhibit of Chesapeake Bay wooden boat building and restoration, open to the public seven days a week, and staffed by CBMM employees and volunteers. CBMM Shipwrights restores, build and maintain traditional wooden vessels, while allowing full public access to the process.

Basic Requirements:
• 3 to 6 years’ experience in traditional wooden boat construction and/or restoration.
• Possess the knowledge and ability to identify and fabricate quality large timber products using treenails. Crane and forklift experience, basic rigging and metal fabrication experience is a plus.
• Good communication skills along with the aptitude to teach your skills to volunteers, apprentices, and the public. Must be comfortable building in full public view, interfacing and interpreting to patrons daily.
• Ability to provide all necessary hand tools, exercise proficiency in use and maintenance of wood shop machinery.

Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment.
• Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.
• Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Execute day to day tasks including producing templates and patterns from full-size detail drawings, fitting out internal and external components, positioning sections accurately, preparing slipways and constructing cradles used to support ships.
• Find and select quality lumber.
• Fabricate ship parts, such as keel, futtocks, planking, and support structures and blocking and staging, using woodworking power and edge tools.
• Manipulate large timbers safely with machinery, block and tackle, and by hand.
• Build boats according to blueprint specifications.
• Apply traditional preservatives and finishes to lumber.
• Maintain industrial shop equipment, sharpen and maintain shop power and edge tools.
• Maintain shop cleanliness and order.
• Participate in training regarding CBMM exhibits, service values, and other topics
• Assume such other duties as are necessary for the operation of CBMM or as assigned by the President or Shipyard Manager; assist other staff as needed with technical issues or special projects.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position with an expected minimum work schedule of 40 hours per week.

The Shipyard is a working exhibit of Chesapeake Bay wooden boat building and restoration, open to the public seven days a week, and staffed by CBMM employees and volunteers. CBMM Shipwrights restore, build and maintain traditional wooden vessels, while allowing full public access to the process.

Basic Requirements:
• At least 10 years’ experience in traditional wooden boat construction and/or restoration.
• Lofting expertise
• Ability to read, interpret, and build from, vessel drawings
• Possess the knowledge and ability to identify and fabricate quality wooden boat construction components
• Forklift experience
• Crane experience preferred
• Rigging experience
• Metal fabrication experience
• Good communication skills along with the aptitude to teach your skills to volunteers, apprentices, and the general public. Must be comfortable building in full public view, interfacing and interpreting to patrons daily.
• Proficiency in use and maintenance of wood shop stationary machinery and power hand tools.

Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment.
• Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.
• Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Execute day-to-day tasks to include producing templates and patterns from full-size detail drawings, fitting out internal and external components, positioning sections accurately, preparing slipways and constructing cradles used to support ships.
• Find and select quality lumber.
• Fabricate ship parts, such as keel, futtocks, planking, and support structures and blocking and staging, using power and manual hand tools.
• Manipulate large timbers safely with machinery, block and tackle and by hand.
• Direct the installation and testing of mechanical systems.
• Participate in the installation of rigging.
• Direct and organize Shipwrights in the execution of traditional vessel repair, refit, and construction.
• Interact with third party customers including: reviewing plans and work completed, discussing project scope, creating vessel documentation, providing vessel training, and performing sea trials.
• Assume such other duties as are necessary for the operation of CBMM or as assigned by the President or Shipyard Manager; assist other staff as needed with technical issues or special projects.

This is a full-time, non‐exempt, hourly position with an expected minimum work schedule of 40 hours per week.

Requirements
Education:
An associate's or bachelor's degree in marine, mechanical, or electrical engineering is highly desired but can be substituted with proven experience.
