CBMM is currently hiring Master Shipwrights to help complete the replica construction of the 17th century pinnace the Maryland Dove. The ship design is based on the original Dove that sailed to the Maryland colony with the Ark in 1634.

Minimum Requirements:

• At least 10 years’ experience in traditional wooden boat construction and/or restoration.

• Possess the knowledge and ability to identify and fabricate quality large timber products using treenails.

• Crane and forklift experience, basic rigging and metal fabrication experience is a plus.

• Experience running a crew.

• Good communication skills along with the aptitude to teach your skills to volunteers, apprentices, and the general public. Must be comfortable building in full public view, interfacing and interpreting to patrons daily.

The work is taking place in our "boathouse" constructed several years ago on the museum property. A full wood shop is in place to support the project. After the hull is planked, installation of mechanical, electrical, and navigation sysytems will take place. 
After the restoration work is completed Liberty Aviation Museum will be "barnstorming " the Great Lakes, providing the public with an opportunity to ride on a truly unique vessel. The boatbuilding positions could evolve into roles involving the ongoing operations and maintenance of the vessel, as well as other areas of operation of the museum.

MARINE FINISHER

A Marine Finisher is responsible for all surface preparations and coating of the vessel, may include fairing, sanding, painting, spraying and other finishing procedure. Finishing may involve epoxy, linear polyurethanes and other marine finish products. A Finisher may also assist with preparing estimates, including interacting with Service Managers and/or Customers.

Five years’ experience in the marine finishing industry is preferred but may be substituted for experience in high-end auto body shop finishing. The applicant must be familiar with brush and spray applications, have high quality standards and pay attention to detail. The applicant must have a keen understanding of the safety procedures, have good communication skills and be a team player. 

A Marine Finisher must also possess basic mathematic skills, must be able to read and understand paint mixing formulas, have flexibility to work in standing, squatting or kneeling position, work in small confined spaces, as well as reaching overhead with some twisting and bending, while performing the tasks described above. Finisher must not have a fear of heights and must be able to lift a minimum of 25lbs.

Job Description
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

New product design including requirements analysis, design, validation, documentation, implementation, and ongoing support
Sustaining engineering support to operations
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Design market leading components, subsystems, and products for the marine industry using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
Prepare design documentation for new/existing components - drawings, engineering specifications, standard operating procedures, and test reports
Root cause and remedy product related production, quality, and supply issues as required
Participate in Continuous Improvement programs with a focus on utilizing the ECR/ECN process
Analyze, develop, and implement appropriate design and/or manufacturing changes to improve the product and operational efficiency
Create and manage Bill of Materials
Coordinate with external suppliers to document existing and develop new products
Develop project plans, coordinate activities and report on project status
Assist in the development of manufacturing tools, equipment, and processes as required
Support company annual Hi-5 goals
Miscellaneous Product Development projects or other duties as assigned
Practice good safety habits and works to improve safety culture; wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Qualifications
Mechanical Engineering Degree or Technologist Diploma
3-5 years related experience in a design related capacity within a manufacturing environment
Proficient with SolidWorks, PDM, and AutoCAD
Knowledge of production processes including sheet metal fabrication, welding, machining, and casting
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required for communication with manufacturing personnel, customers, and suppliers
Familiar with ERP systems to control engineering Bills of Materials
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction
Marine or in the transportation industry familiarity is an asset
Working knowledge of industry standards and safety regulations such as ABYC, Transport Canada, and US Coast Guard is an asset

Hours of work: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Work Conditions

Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
Occasional lifting of moderately heavy objects may be required.
Overtime as required.
